CHETHAMS LIBRARY, MANCHESTER

We have been entrusted with the ongoing restoration and conservation of the fabric and fittings of the oldest surviving public library in the English speaking world.

Work includes a Lottery funded project to restore the library’s 17th century book presses, strengthen flooring, create a local studies centre and form archive rooms, including installation of heating and electrical services.

We were also responsible for repairs to the Reading Room including restoration of the screen, new lighting and heating and redecoration.  Structural repair of the floor will follow in 2013.
