CARPHONE WAREHOUSE

Until recently this narrow tapering site was occupied by a redundant petrol filling station. Our clients acquired it with the intention of building a new commercial or retail unit for sale or let.

However the site was extremely difficult to develop: the heavy traffic of Bury Road to one side and a five metre high retaining wall to the rear; buried petrol tanks to be made safe and disposed of without creating a contamination hazard and poor ground with a large public sewer passing beneath.

Nevertheless, we worked with the client and his long-term tenant, Carphone Warehouse, to design and build a bespoke retail unit with associated car parking.

Despite the difficulties the scheme was delivered on time and within budget.
